KK is Kara Kurcz, founder and President of Solas Fashion. Growing up in Chicago, Kara K. dreamed of moving to LALA land where she would Direct and Produce her way through Hollywood. After studying journalism, television, radio and Italian at the University of Iowa, she moved to Italy for several months where she nurtured her flair for fashion before graduating.
Returning to the US Kara moved to Washington DC where she landed her first big break in television in the most unlikely place -fighting crime at America ’s Most Wanted. She quickly learned that the road to Hollywood was a bumpy ride with no training wheels allowed. When not working around the clock, KK found her stress outlets to be journaling and shopping. Could there be a correlation she thought? Wasn’t it Gloria Vanderbilt who said, “follow your passion?” The answer would come years later when she was living in Hollywood as an established Producer.
One fall day,(if there is such a thing in LA), Kara found herself tired and miserable. She was faced with a difficult decision….she hated her job and she had to quit. That night as she lay on her bed crying wondering what happened to her passion, she stared at her closet. Her closet was the one thing that she consistently depended on to feel better. Whether she was backstabbed, berated by a bad boss, or barely making the bills …she had always found a way to dress her way out of ANY mess. She also knew if her closet was a wry she definitely didn’t feel fly. So she dragged herself out of bed and sat at the computer and started to write. That night her dream changed. She wanted to make a difference in women’s lives and she hoped someday to reach out to ALL types of women and inspire them to feel good about the goods God gave them. Closet Karma was born.
A year later she launched Solas Fashion, her handbag line. 6 years later Kara is an established designer. Her handbags' are not only lightening up the red carpet, she is also a Co-Executive Producer and a personality on Television. As Solas has grown, Kara wanted to reach out to her customers and supporters more and share her inspirational stories and fashion tips. She is committed to creating and recommending not only good products, but products that will enlighten your closet and light up your life.
